Visit of Mr Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former prime minister of France.
During his stay in Shanghai, Mr Jean-Pierre Raffarin, accompanied by Mr Serge Feneuille, former director general of CNRS, visited the “Pôle Sino-Francais”, and took some time to discuss with the scientists and students of the “Pôle”. He was accompanied by the Director of RuiJin Hospital, Prof. Zhu Zhenggang (朱正纲) and the former director, Prof. Li Hong Wei （李宏为）, the Consul General of France in Shanghai, Mr Thierry Mathou, the attaché scientifique of the French Consulate, Mr Jean-Jacques Pierrat, and the director of the “Pôle”, Prof. Lu Yiming (陆一鸣).

Students of the Sino-European School of Technology of Shanghai University (UTSEUS) visit the “Pôle Sino-Français”.
The French speaking students of the biomedical department of the engineering school UTSEUS of Shanghai University (a member of the network of the French Universities of Technology Belfort-Montbeliard, Compiegne and Troyes) have visited the “Pôle”. They were accompanied by Alain Donedey, professor at the University of Campiegne.

Last day of Thomas Biedermann at the “Pôle”
Thomas Biedermann, a chemistry student from the Engineering School “Ecole Centrale Marseille”, has completed his 5 month practical training during this summer at the “Pôle” in Shanghai. His venue to Shanghai was sponsored in part by the “Fondation Franço-Chinoise pour la Science et ses Applications”. During his stay at the “Pôle”, Thomas helped to design and organize the Pole’s new Website. We wish him all the best for his future career.

Olivier Neyrolles, P.I. of the "Pôle" has been awarded this year's Bronze Medal of the CNRS.
Olivier Neyrolles, P.I. of Team 8 of the "Pôle" and Research Scientist (CR1) of the CNRS unit UMR5089 at the Institute of Pharmacology & Structural Biology in Toulouse, has been awarded the 2009 Bronze Medal of the CNRS. Olivier's research is focused on the molecular mechanisms of mycobacterial infections, and he is collaborating with Prof. Zhang Ji and Prof. Brigitte Gicquel (Institut Pasteur, Paris) at the "Pôle" to identify the M.tuberculosis-responsive genes upon infection of mammalian cells by different M.t. strains.
The Bronze Medal is awarded by the CNRS each year to acknowledge the work of young researchers who have become specialists in their field of research. The Medal is presented as an encouragement to pursue a very productive research career. In 2009, 40 Medals have been awarded to CNRS scientists of 9 different disciplines.

Visit of Pr. Jacques CAEN
Pr. Jacques CAEN is President of the « Fondation Franco-Chinoise pour la Science et ses Applications (FFCSA)», a French – Chinese Foundation for Science and its Applications of the French Academy of Sciences.
During his visit, Pr CAEN discussed with the director of the Sino-French Research Center, Pr. LU Yiming, the involvement of the FFCSA in promoting the venue of French students to Shanghai for short or long term training periods at the Center.
Pr. Caen gave a lecture on "30 Years of French-Chinese Scientific Cooperation " at the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology.

In 2001, Prof. Grimaud was the head of the delegation of the French Ministry of Research and Technology, who signed the Memorandum for the foundation of the Sino-French Research Center in Life Sciences and Genomics affiliated to RuiJin Hospital.

Visit of Dr Bernard ACCOYER, President of the National Assembly of France
Dr. Accoyer visited the Shanghai site of the "Pôle" during his stay in China. He met the P.I.s of the "Pôle" and was given an insight of their research topics.

Celebration in Beijing of the the 30th Anniversary of the Sino-French Cooperation in Science and Technology
BEIJING, 16 décembre (Xinhua) -- La coopération scientifique et technologique sino-française, partie intégrante du partenariat de coopération stratégique global entre les deux pays, s'est développée de manière efficace, sur la base des principes de l'égalité et des avantages réciproques, sans cesser de s'améliorer.
Yao Weike, directeur général adjoint du département de la coopération internationale du ministère chinois des Sciences et Technologies, a fait cette remarque mardi après-midi lors d'un forum célébrant le 30e anniversaire de l'Accord intergouvernemental de coopération scientifique et technologique entre la Chine et la France à Beijing.
Cet accord, signé le 21 janvier 1978 par les anciens ministres des Affaires étrangères chinois et français Huang Hua et Louis de Guiringaud, était le premier accord intergouvernemental signé entre la Chine et les pays occidentaux en matière de coopération scientifique et technologique, a indiqué Yao Weike.
Dans le cadre de cet accord, plusieurs comités conjoints de coopération scientifique et technologique ont été créés grâce aux efforts des deux gouvernements. Le Comité conjoint de coopération scientifique et technologique sino-français a organisé un total de douze réunions, et plus de 700 projets de coopération couvrant les domaines agricole, biotechnologique, environnemental, chimique, informatique et automobile ont été achevés.
En outre, le Programme sino-français de Recherches Avancées (PRA), impliquant la recherche de techniques avancées en biotechnologie, biomédecine, matériaux, environnement et informatique, a été mis en place en 1991. Le laboratoire franco-chinois d'informatique, d'automatique et de mathématiques appliquées (LIAMA) a été créé en 1997, devenant ainsi la première plate-forme de recherche scientifique à long terme entre la Chine et la France, mais aussi entre la Chine et l'étranger.
Dans le secteur automobile, la Chine et la France ont signé en 2007 un accord encourageant la recherche sur les moteurs électriques, démontrant la détermination du gouvernement chinois à résoudre les problèmes énergétiques. La mise en service de voitures à moteur électrique à Beijing au cours des Jeux olympiques a contribué davantage à l'amélioration de la qualité de l'air de la capitale chinoise.
La coopération scientifique sino-française s'est également manifestée par la création du Laboratoire franco-chinois de physique des particules, du Laboratoire sino-français de biologie des cellules embryonnaires des mammifères, et du Pôle sino-français de génomique et des sciences du vivant.
Yao Weike a appelé à renforcer la coopération entre les zones de hautes technologies chinoises et des groupes français, et entre les instituts de recherche et les universités des deux pays, à faire progresser le dialogue sur les méthodes scientifiques de gestion et à partager les expériences en la matière.
Le conseiller pour la Science et la Technologie de l'ambassade de France en Chine Yves Miaux, des officiels du ministère chinois des Sciences et Technologies, ainsi que des représentants d'entreprises françaises étaient aussi présents à ce forum.
Mardi soir, le ministre chinois des Sciences et Technologies Wan Gang et l'ambassadeur français Hervé Ladsous ont participé à une cérémonie de remise des prix, lors de laquelle six Français ont été honorés pour leurs contributions à la coopération scientifique et technologique sino-française.
